Central Park in Fall

One of the things I never really experienced much of, growing up in Arizona (besides snow) are the colors of fall. Throughout the city the leaves were changing but nowhere near as dense as Central Park for the fall colors. I decided to take a side trip through the park while coming back from an appointment on Central Park West.

Armed with my trusty iPhone, I entered the forest of Central Park to leave the sights and sounds of the city behind. Luckily, there were many paths to follow on my journey through the manicured wilderness. There are parts of … Read the rest

Project: 90 Days – What I Learned

Much has changed in the last 90 days. Passions rediscovered, fears overcome (mostly) and objectives redefined along this journey I have shared. While I would have wished for a little more feedback and connection, I definitely appreciate those who took the time to look, rate and comment on the images.

At first, I was ready to call this project an absolute success. The result has been extremely positive for me. But, as I reflect on the last 3 months and what I set out to do, there has been one glaring failure. I don’t feel bad about it or let … Read the rest

Buskers of NYC Photo Book Project

Buskers of NYC Kickstarter Project

"The word "busk" comes from the Spanish root word "buscar", meaning "to seek" – buskers are literally seeking fame and fortune. The term "busking" was first noted in the English language around the middle 1860s in Great Britain. Up until the 20th century buskers were commonly called minstrels in America, Europe and other English-speaking lands." -Wikipedia

I have just started a project on Kickstarter. For those of you who have never heard of it, Kickstarter is an online venue for funding of creative projects. You'll find anything from films to boardgames on the site at various levels of funding. … Read the rest

My 5 Must Have iPhone Photo Apps

I finally went and picked up my iPhone 4 last weekend. I've been wanting the better camera and when my headphones went out, I thought that was a good opportunity. Now I can't believe I waited so long. I am loving this new phone. They say the best camera is the one you have on you. Right now, aside from my DSLR, my iPhone camera is my go-to.

Since my main objective was the camera, I went looking for some cool new apps for the camera. I already had TiltShiftGen and CameraBag and had just recently gotten Hipstamatic. Hipstamatic is … Read the rest

Always Learning

I have been helping out the coworking space at which I spend most of my days. They are a great group of people and I enjoy working there. We recently moved to a new, much bigger location and decided that it was a good opportunity to update the image. I designed a new logo and a new web site. Part of that equation was some new imagery to go along with it.

The inspiration for the shoot was something I saw in an ad from photographer Dave Hill. Not his signature processing style, which nearly every photographer has tried to … Read the rest

Finding Inspiration

Sometimes we have a vision, an idea we want to shoot. Sometimes they happen on the spot and sometimes they’ve been formulated over time. And sometimes it feels like we’re running on empty with no inspiration and no ideas.

That’s where I found myself a couple of months ago. Aside from an iPhone ‘doors’ series called NYC42 I shot mostly as a joke, I had not done any photography since I moved to New York over a year before. I needed something to kick-start my creativity and get back behind the camera. But, what to do? I was so used … Read the rest

HDRvsBuskers

NYCinHDR vs NYCBuskers

I have decided to do a self-published book project. It was partly inspired by my involvement with Kickstarter (post about that coming soon). My original idea was to do a NYCinHDR book. I have been interested in strengthening my HDR skills and this sounded like a great way to do this. It is definitely a city rich in depth and urban texture, an ideal subject for HDR. Another idea I had recently was to make the project about the people of the city. Mostly the street and subway performers found throughout the city. Each subject has it's pros and cons.… Read the rest
